Do I have to go to a chiropractor forever?

Most of my patients first come to see me because they have a new injury or a nagging pain and they need a push in the right direction. The most common conditions are back pain, sciatica, neck pain, rolled ankles, achy knees and tweaked shoulders. Many of these issues resolve with 4-8 sessions of active chiropractic care.

Once patients are discharged from active care for an injury, we establish the expectation that they may come back when it works best for them. Some patients love having a schedule of treatment once a month for accountability and because they like how treatment makes them feel.

Other patients return when something feels tight or they’ve got a new injury that hasn’t gone away on its own. Either way, once patients leave the office, they shouldn’t need to return repeatedly because they still feel broken.

If patients feel broken when they don’t have frequent care, I’ve actually failed at my job, because it means we never found a way to build resiliency and we haven’t arrived at a place where my patients have the tools they need to take care of themselves.

To learn more about resiliency and what it means check out last month’s blog.
