Registered Massage Therapy in Kanata
Hands-on massage therapy to relieve pain, ease tension, and help you move and feel better — provided by Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) as part of your care team at Highlands Wellness & Sports Injury Clinic.
Massage Therapy That's Part of a Bigger Plan
Registered massage therapy at Highlands Wellness is therapeutic, not just relaxation. While a good massage absolutely feels great, our focus is on helping you recover from injury, move better, and resolve the tension and pain that keep getting in your way.
What sets our RMT apart is that it does not happen in isolation. Our massage therapists work alongside our chiropractors and provide homework and education to improve your health after you leave the clinic. That means your massage is targeted at what your body actually needs, informed by your full assessment, rather than a generic full-body routine. This is the integrated approach that gets people better faster.
Whether you are a competitive athlete, a weekend warrior, an office worker carrying tension in your neck and shoulders, or an expecting mom looking for relief, our team tailors every treatment to you.
What Massage Therapy Can Help With

Meet Your Massage Therapists
Adam Bourne, RMT
Adam holds an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology from Lakehead University and an Advanced Massage Therapy Diploma from Algonquin College. He takes a focused, goal-oriented approach to treatment, assessing areas of high tension, postural imbalances, and both chronic and acute injuries, and he makes sure his clients understand what they can do to keep progressing between sessions.
Adam spent several years as the team massage therapist for the Ottawa 67's of the OHL and continues to work with many University of Ottawa Gee-Gees teams and athletes. If you want a therapist who understands sport and performance, Adam is an excellent fit.
Alexandra Desilets, RMT
Alexandra earned her first diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion from Algonquin College in 2016. Her passion for movement and injury prevention led her to pursue the Intensive Massage Therapy Program, also at Algonquin College, completing her second diploma in 2020. Through her training she gained experience treating varsity athletes, sports injuries, prenatal clients, people living with chronic pain or acute injuries, and clients dealing with general physical discomfort.
Alex's approach is shaped by her own experience. After ten years of competitive soccer, including injuries that required surgery and rehabilitation, she became motivated to understand health, fitness, and recovery so she could get back to the activities she loves. That experience is why she incorporates strength training and mobility work into her treatment plans, with the goal of helping clients return to doing what they love most rather than just feeling better on the table. Outside the clinic you will find her downhill skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling in the winter, and water skiing, hiking, and kayaking in the summer.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
If you have never had a registered massage treatment with us, here is what happens. Your therapist begins with a brief intake to understand your goals, your history, and any areas of concern. This is therapeutic massage, so the session is focused on what your body needs, whether that is injury recovery, tension release, or supporting your rehab plan.
You are always in control. Pressure, focus areas, and draping are all adjusted to your comfort and preferences, and you can give feedback at any point during the treatment. Many patients combine massage with chiropractic and exercise rehab, and because our team communicates, your care stays coordinated across every appointment.

-
In most cases yes. Registered massage therapy is covered by the majority of extended health benefit plans. Coverage amounts and whether a doctor's note is required vary by plan, so it is worth checking your specific benefits. We offer direct billing to many providers.
-
Registered massage therapy is performed by a Registered Massage Therapist, a regulated health professional trained in anatomy, assessment, and treatment of injury and dysfunction. It is therapeutic and goal-oriented, it is eligible for insurance coverage, and at our clinic it is integrated with chiropractic and rehab. A spa massage is focused purely on relaxation and is not typically covered by health benefits.

It depends on your goals. For an acute injury or significant tension, weekly or biweekly sessions early on tend to produce the best results. For maintenance and prevention, many patients come monthly. Your therapist will recommend a cadence based on your specific situation rather than a one-size-fits-all package.
-
Absolutely, and many of our patients do. Because our chiropractors, RMTs, and rehab team work together on one coordinated plan, combining services often produces faster and longer-lasting results than either on its own. This integrated approach is one of the things that sets Highlands Wellness apart.
-
Yes. Our therapists modify treatment to safely and comfortably support you through every stage of pregnancy, addressing the common areas of discomfort that come with it.
-
Usually no. Most extended health insurance plans do not require a doctor’s note, but it’s best to double check to be sure.
